Olympus m:robe MR100

One of the classiest looking MP3 players on the market today is the Olympus m:robe MR100. Its sleek, elegant design makes it an eyecatcher everywhere you go. It is a small and lightweight MP3 player (just 100 g) but there has been no skimping on the manufacturing -- the controls have a solid feel to them and the player is a joy to hold in your hand.

This model comes with a 5 GB hard drive which is sufficient for holding about 1200 songs in MP3 format (128 kbps). It connects to your computer with a USB 2.0 interface for speedy transfer of songs and other data. When it is plugged into the USB port, your computer sees the Olympus m:robe MR100 as a removable drive which can be used for storing any kind of computer data -- not just music.

Songs can be stored in either MP3 or WMA format. The player comes with software which can be used to rip music from CDs and convert it to WMA. The software even allows you to organize your music collection and transferring it to the MP3 player is as simple as dragging and dropping.

The display screen is an ample 1.7 inches square. The display shows your information about the current song being played as well as helping you navigate the hard drive for finding specific songs. The user interface is intuitive and well laid out and can be used in several different languages including English, French, German, and Chinese.

The Olympus m:robe MR100 is powered with a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. Anytime the MP3 player is plugged into the USB port of your computer, the battery is recharging. Full recharge time takes about three hours. For use at home, there is an optional AC adapter.

On the downside, this MP3 player does not include an FM radio or a microphone for recording your voice. These would be handy features especially when there's such an ample size to hard disk to store data on. However, the sound quality is top-notch making this is an ideal model for those who can do without radio and voice recording.

The Olympus m:robe MR100 comes with earphones, a USB cable, and a soft case, as well as a CD containing the software for organizing your song collection and transferring it to the player.
